Rocky Outcrop Touch Pool

Rocky Outcrop Touch Pool

In the heart of the Fort Fisher Aquarium is the Rocky Outcrop Touch Pool, and it’s among the most popular experience for people of all ages. Staffed by a dedicated troop of educators and trained volunteers, the Touch Pool offers true hands-on experiences—connecting visitors with the natural world. Horseshoe crabs, stingrays, urchins, sea stars, spider crabs and hermit crabs are just a few of the ambassador animals living in the touch pool. There’s always a lot to see and experience with each trip to the Aquarium, and it’s not surprising to see visitors linger at this open and interactive area.

Did you know the horseshoe crab has blue blood that is used in pharmaceutical research? Talk to one of the Touch Pool staff and you’ll learn many other fascinating stories about North Carolina’s aquatic life.

Sponsorship of the Rocky Outcrop Touch Pool is for a ten-year term. Tax-deductible contributions may be made over three years. The sponsor will be recognized with appropriate signage at the exhibit. Additionally, named recognition will be provided on permanent displays at all three NC Aquariums.
