Why it matters:
Frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians are going extinct. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s Red List of Threatened Species estimates that at least one-third of known amphibian species are threatened with extinction, a rate higher than birds or mammals. Major threats include habitat loss or degradation and disease.
Sea turtle hatchlings must escape natural predators like birds, crabs, raccoons and foxes to make it to the sea. Then, they may be consumed by seabirds and fish. Few survive to adulthood, with estimates as low as one in 10,000. Humans further imperil them with single-use plastics.
