February 2023

Breathtaking beauty and stunning scenery inspire runners to keep coming back to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF) Race for the Planet—this year slated for Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 8 a.m. The 2023 5K race and 1-mile fun run winds through the maritime forest that surrounds the Aquarium. There is also a virtual race from April 24-30, a great opportunity for racers to support the Aquarium green initiatives from anywhere on Earth.

“Sustainability and conservation of our natural resources is at the core of our mission at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Race for the Planet is a fun, health-focused way to inspire the community to take action for our planet,” said Hap Fatzinger, director, NCAFF.

The Aquarium encourages pacesetters for the planet—racers to register early for a discounted rate and sponsors to come on board as early backers. In 2022, the Aquarium welcomed nearly 400 racers to the Aquarium, the largest event to date. Another 60 racers joined the Race virtually. Three sponsors have already set the pace:

• Jeff Gordon Chevrolet, Tidal Sponsor

• Fleet Feet, Race Packet Pick-up Sponsor

    Friday, April 21, 4-7 p.m.

Carolina Beach Rd Suite 120, Wilmington, NC 28412

• Cape Fear Solar, Suncatcher Sponsor

“A Race sponsorship sets the pace for a greener planet and sets businesses or organizations apart as sustainability supporters. We welcome sponsors to partner with us as we expect to host even more runners and raise more funds this year,” said Casey Radley, chair, NCAFF Green Team.

NEW IN 2023

In 2023, Racers for the Planet have an opportunity to donate a race entry for local North Carolina high school student runners. The North Carolina Aquariums continue to prioritize inclusivity to inspire appreciation and conservation of aquatic environments among a diverse cross-section of the community.

Interested sponsors or racers should visit NCAFF Race for the Planet to find out more about the 2023 event. To register for the race, visit 2023 Race for the Planet
