Meet the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Hatchlings

Web Browser Version

December 2022

Just in time for the holidays, these two loggerhead hatchlings are a gift that will keep on giving when it comes to conservation of their species. North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher staff shared some name ideas based on the unique characteristics of loggerheads, and North Carolina school children voted on their favorite names. We are excited to introduce you to Pip & Scout! The pair will take turns splashing around in the public habitat.

LOGGERHEAD CONSERVATION HABITAT

These two survivors didn't make the initial trek to the ocean and came to us following nest excavations on Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher. The North Carolina Aquariums (NCA) veterinary team cleared the hatchlings to serve as ambassadors for sea turtle conservation in the loggerhead habitat. Find our more at Meet Pip & Scout.

FAREWELL TO HATCH & JOURNEY

The NCA veterinary team examined Hatch and Journey, the two loggerhead sea turtle yearlings who have been with us since fall 2021, and they were cleared for release to the ocean. Beloved by visitors, volunteers and staff, Hatch and Journey were amazing ambassadors for conservation of our oceans.
