Croc your world! 🐊

June 2022

As part of the conservation effort Project Return to the Llanos, the Aquarium will welcome two critically endangered Orinoco crocodile hatchlings. The team will care for them until they’re big enough to return to the wilds of South America. We join the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Gladys Porter Zoo, Zoo Miami, and Dallas World Aquarium in this global conservation effort to save the critically endangered crocodile through a breeding and release program. Native only to the Orinoco River system in the Llanos of Venezuela and the Meta River system in Colombia, the Orinoco crocodile has been pushed to the brink of extinction due to overhunting, habitat loss, and pollution. We're honored to be able to take part in this unique conservation opportunity. Look for these young reptiles in mid-June.

This summer, choose your outdoor adventure! We offer Beachcombing hikes every Monday, Paddle Trips through the Theodore Roosevelt nature area on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Stand-up Paddleboard on Fridays. Our popular Sea Turtle Trek program is held on Thursday evenings.

Help us plant marsh grass and dune grass June 4 during our outdoor conservation projects.

Splash into an underwater world of art during Family Paint Night. Bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks during this family-friendly event. Instructors from Wine and Design on Wheels from Morehead City will provide all painting supplies and guide you every step of the way! June 22 Pufferfish, July 20 Mermaid.

For one night only we’ll host an age 21 and up Sip and Paint Aug 24. For this special paint night, bring your own beer, wine, or champagne and your favorite snacks to enjoy while we paint Cape Lookout Lighthouse.
