September 2025

This month marks the start of our second season along the Outer Banks. These delightful Indian Summer days and nights often linger into fall.

Everything moves a bit slower. The beaches and byways are less crowded. With some luck, you may even get a table at your favorite eatery now that the masses have headed home.

Thanks to tropical storms, historically, surfing conditions peak in September while the ocean remains warm, and winds are moderate. Wave riders come from near and far to chase their own epic version of an Endless Summer.

Jennette’s Pier hosts several events that celebrate surfing, its culture and people. The series gets underway on Sunday, Sept. 14 with the six-day long Championships for the Eastern Surfing Association.

Amateur wave riders of all ages converge on the south beach to suit up and compete in head-to-head heats all week long. From menehunes to grand masters, this surfing crowd has it all.

Evening entertainment that week includes the three-night long Surfalorus Film Festival held in Oceanview Hall. It opens on Monday with Ambivalent, a look at Hatteras Island surfing standout Brett Barley.

To close out the set, the U.S. Wave Ski Surfing Championships barrel into town Friday to Sunday, Sept. 26 – 28.

Catch a ride to Jennette’s Pier and drop in this September.
