April 2025

It’s a sprint to the finish line for the 2025 Race for the Planet at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF) slated for Sunday, April 27 at 8 a.m. A favorite for competitive racers and leisure walkers, the 5K and 1-mile fun run wind along the Atlantic Ocean and through the picturesque maritime forest that is home to the Aquarium. All funds support the NCAFF green initiatives through the North Carolina Aquarium Society.

Racers should keep “green think” top of mind as they make their way to the Aquarium for this family friendly event.

Here are some dos and don’ts for Racers for the Planet:

Do bring your reusable water bottle as there will be water refills on-site, so please no single-use plastic water bottles nor any other single-use plastic items.

Do carpool to the Aquarium.

Do arrive early to plan for parking and traffic. We don’t want anyone to miss the Race!

Do bring household hazardous waste and electronics to drop off at the NCAFF Sustainability Drive.

Do pack environmentally friendly bug repellant.

Do take care of our beaches when visiting here. Turtle nesting season begins in May. Here are some good tips for protecting sea turtles.

Do pat yourself on the back for supporting a greener planet.
