January 2024

While we welcome the New Year, we’re pleased to announce that all 70 benches on the Pier will be replaced this winter. These new Park Avenue benches are made from recycled plastics.

The black and grey colored benches were customized when fabricated with an extra cross member on the back to highlight new cast bronze sponsorship plaques being produced to replace all the old Corian fish-shaped ones.

Director Mike Remige explains that our maintenance technicians Sammy Thornton and Roger Trimbach plan to install the Park Avenue benches one at a time.

“They will be installed as time permits,” he said. “An old one will be hauled away across the street and a new one brought back in the ‘Gator.’” Wooden blocks were added to elevate them for a better view over the handrail.

The ‘one at a time’ gradual replacement plan allows for the guys to replace old worn planks underneath the benches out on the 1,000-foot-long fishing platform.

The project promises to dress up Jennette’s Pier just in time for the spring bite in our 14th season since reopening in May of 2011.
