Beetles and butterflies and ants, oh my! Unseen wonders are magnified in this summer’s Backyard Buzz exhibit! Explore larger-than-life insects that call Eastern North Carolina home. Learn how you can help make their lives a little bit easier by supporting and protecting wild spaces.

These new animatronic critters have shown up in a BIG way along our nature trail, nestled between views of the Croatan Sound and our Pollinator Garden and Maritime Trail. Enjoy our fantastic outdoor spaces while you learn about some of the bugs that support our local ecosystems.

Pose with an oversize Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillar or challenge yourself to climb like an Orb-Weaver Spider. Check out the impressive Black Garden Ant and the gigantic Red-Tailed Bumblebee. The whole family is sure to have big fun when you visit the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

Guests can enjoy this jumbo offering July through October. Summer and fall are perfect times to visit the outdoor gardens featuring carnivorous plants and native pollinators.
