Some play favorites while others like to make the rounds. We don’t mind. No matter which North Carolina Aquarium you choose — Fort Fisher, Pine Knoll Shores or Roanoke Island — there is always more to love. 

Our team returned 24 threatened and endangered sea turtles to their ocean home in January. The previously cold-stunned turtles received expert rehabilitative care at Pine Knoll Shores and Roanoke Island. We send a special thank-you to the U.S. Coast Guard Ft. Macon and Duke Marine Lab for their transportation assistance to the warm waters of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. 

Make it a date for Fort Fisher’s Virtual Game Night: Love in the Animal Kingdom. Pair up with your honey or join a friend to test your trivia knowledge of wild romances, and be delighted by animal cameos. Screen preregistration is required for the adults-only evening (21+) on Feb. 11. 

A little kindness goes a long way. Visitors to Roanoke Island can donate nonperishable items to their Ton of Love food drive. The annual event aims to collect 2,000 pounds of food for those in need by Feb. 14. 

It’s a match made for nature. We join hands with the Chesapeake Mermaid for a magical adventure with captivating stories, movement, songs, special visits from our wildlife friends, and more. Preregistration is required for the virtual programs Feb. 27 and March 27, and is also accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing. 

Congratulations to the Roanoke Island team on receiving a $25,000 Dominion Energy grant to develop a new maritime forest trail and educate guests on the importance of pollinators, like butterflies and bees. 

The nonprofit North Carolina Aquarium Society has created a new Facebook page. Like and follow to help the Society support the Aquariums’ important mission and expert animal care.
