January 2021

As we brace for windy winter weather, we’re moving ahead on several important projects coming to fruition this month. So, while anglers seek catches of skates and dogfish, our staff works hard on these special initiatives.

The Education Department will review the latest round of Aquarium Scholars applications in early January, with recipients to be announced mid-month. Weeks later, newly developed learning modules will be released to the awardees.

The modules created at Jennette’s feature incredible underwater video footage of jellies, blue crabs and, of course, fish around the pier. These unique learning lessons were filmed and produced in-house by our education team.

In a separate program, students may experience Jennette’s Pier remotely, through Virtual Field Trips conducted by our educators on Zoom. These fascinating science explorations will be available to students in their classrooms or in their homes.

One of the biggest projects we’ve completed since our re-opening, back in 2011, has to do with our new roof coverings. In their continuing recovery from Hurricane Dorian, all six oceanside buildings were encased with a self-adhering underlayment, then covered with Grand Manor heavy-duty asphalt shingles, in gorgeous Sherwood Forest Green!

The new roof system looks fantastic, and final inspections come in early January.
