October: Such a beautiful time of year to visit Jennette’s Pier, your happy place! Warm days and exceptional fishing lure folks young and old to this unique gathering place.
Already this fall, anglers have enjoyed catches of flounder, pompano, puppy drum and bull red drum. Keeper speckled trout are showing up in decent numbers too.
So, make plans to wet a line this month. Fresh shrimp and mullet are favored baits used on double bottom rigs with medium-sized hooks and a pyramid sinker. Although the Pier Shop gift area is closed for the off season, we sell bait, rigs, hooks and more tackle at the admissions counter.
Beach-goers and ocean-swimmers can relish warm temps and smaller crowds this month. The surf kicks up plenty in October, and currently there are two wave-riding events scheduled.
The Outer Banks District of the Eastern Surfing Association plans to hold a local contest on Sunday, Oct. 18. Later that week, the National Scholastic Surfing Association looks to have their event Tuesday through Sunday, Oct. 20-25.
Speaking of scholastics, check out our new Virtual Learning page, where you can see all the different online opportunities offered by the three Aquariums and Jennette’s Pier.
