September 2020

It’s business as (un)usual! Our teams continue to work to make a difference for you, the animals and the planet, even as we remain closed to guests.

Join us for the first North Carolina Aquariums (Virtual) Run for the Planet. Anyone, anywhere, can register, choose one of the multiple distances, and get moving for a great cause, Sept. 12-20. It’s a fun, no-pressure way to do something healthy for yourself and the planet. Proceeds will benefit the aquariums’ conservation and sustainability efforts.

Fourteen years of wishes created quite a stir recently. The Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores turned off their 30-foot-tall waterfall for maintenance, leading to a social media sensation. Approximately 100 gallons of coins were collected, cleaned and sorted. (Photo above.) Folks across the country jokingly commented that the $8,563 in change may have both caused and solved the national coin shortage. It will certainly benefit our animal care.

Missing magical moments at the aquarium with animals and experts? Sneak a peek behind the scenes, get virtually eye-to-eye with an animal, make the most of your next birthday bash, include an Aquarium expert in your child’s online learning —with unique virtual programming

Did you know the Aquariums keep a census of the thousands of animals in our care to help better provide for them? You can help #MakeNCCount by responding to your 2020 Census online, by phone or by paper form, by Sept. 30.
