Pier staff is busy this winter with projects intended to enrich the visitor experience.
This month for example, mother and calf pygmy sperm whale skeletons will replace the Gervais’ beaked whale displayed here since 2018. The mom-and-calf pair stranded two miles south of the Pier in 2014.
Our First Fish Citations, always a delight for visitors, have become a tradition we treasure. We love to celebrate each novice angler’s inaugural landing. Last year our staff awarded 125 certificates for hooking a first fish on Jennette's Pier.
Make plans for a different type of catch during the Outer Banks Wedding Expo weekend, March 7-8. Our Pier facility rental staff will welcome visitors to Oceanview Hall each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sadly, this Expo will be without longtime Facility Rentals Coordinator Michele Bunce (pictured top left), who recently accepted a position with the Town of Manteo. The Aquarium family is saying goodbye to this North Carolina native who served 18 years between the Roanoke Island Aquarium and the Pier.
During that time, her professionalism, attention to detail, and outgoing personality established Jennette’s as a premier Outer Banks wedding venue. Bunce oversaw 775 weddings, corporate events and holiday parties, claiming 10 international wedding industry awards along the way. Best wishes, Michele!
