Happy New Year! Join us in making a resolution to be better stewards of our oceans and the bounty they provide.
It’s up to all anglers to turn the tide of over-fishing. Know all your size and bag limits and turn the small ones back quickly. Even if it’s a keeper, you can practice catch and release so that the exceptional fishing at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head carries on for future generations.
And just because you’re allowed to keep a certain amount doesn’t mean you must. Take only what you need, snap photos of the rest and set them free for the pleasure of others.
Are you a newcomer to ocean fishing? Learn the basics of Ethical Angling by attending a Family Fishing class, Mondays-Fridays every week of the summer.
If you’re not into fishing, you can still do your part to help eliminate plastic ocean debris. Dispose of all trash and recycling in the proper receptacles and make picking up litter part of your daily routine at the beach and around your school or neighborhood.
Together, we can lead the charge in making the environment clean and green, which in turn keeps our oceans healthy for our favorite fish, birds and marine mammals.
