Family members and the generous Outer Banks community are honoring the memory of our favorite “small fry” camper, Lilly, by providing summer camp scholarships to 55 underserved youth from Dare and surrounding counties. Camp Silly participants were hand-selected for two days of adventurous activities and a special sleepover at Jennette’s Pier beginning in late July. Break out the marshmallows!
Pier staff, and the Aquarium Conservation Partnership, are committed to protecting our oceans and reducing our plastic footprint by eliminating single-use plastics in our daily operations. How can you help? Properly dispose of trash, cigarette butts and recyclables. Carry reusable shopping bags. Skip the straw. Come and check out our new pier exhibit, Let’s Talk Trash, to learn how long that plastic bottle actually lasts. (Hint: 450 years!)
Congratulations to our education department as they strive to develop the next generation of STEM leaders. Thanks to a grant from Dominion Energy, our educators will soon be heading into regional classrooms to teach kids how to write computer code and fly drones — all in the service of science.
Notice something different at Jennette’s? Check out our sleek new storm-resistant lampposts, outfitted with efficient LED lights. Hurricane Matthew ruined our old ones and FEMA offered to help us replace them all.
