Fishing means CATCHING — especially this month at Jennette’s Pier. A wide variety of species have arrived, including plenty of hard-fighting little tunny, keeper-sized puppy drum, and beautiful speckled trout.
Anglers are also catching blues, flounder, gray trout, speckled trout and sea mullet. Water and air temperatures are just right this time of year to enjoy fabulous fishing.
While you’re wetting a line, keep a sharp eye out for marine mammals, including the humpback whales who feed along the Carolina Coast each spring. Plenty of bottlenose dolphins should be around too, moving north as the waters warm.
The month of May means WEDDINGS along the Outer Banks, and Jennette’s facility rentals department already has ten events booked. Also on the calendar: the Pier hosts the Eastern Surfing Association’s Mid-Atlantic Regionals surfing contest, May 5–7.
The following Thursday, May 11, tourism leaders from across Dare County and beyond will meet in Oceanview Hall to discuss visitor trends, marketing and social media, during the 5th Annual OBX Tourism Summit.
May ends with one of the biggest three-day holidays of the season, Memorial Day weekend, May 27–29. Plan on tons of fun in the sun, as our barrier islands come alive with visitors from all over.
